Kent batsman James Hockley hit a record 283 not out on Saturday – the highest ever individual score in the Shepherd Neame Kent League.

He helped Hartley Country Club defeat Gore Court by 340 runs in the Premier Division.

On a day when records tumbled, opener Justin Guillen also hit 104 and Essex’s former Kent batsman Matthew Walker scored an unbeaten 104.

It left Hartley with a league record total of 540-1 from just 55 overs – a staggering run-rate of 9.82 runs per over.

Court’s cause was not helped by having only 10 players but nonetheless, their attack still included Phil Edwards and Alamgir Sheriyar – who have both played for Kent.

In reply, only opener Daniel Forster and Chris Piesley, who both scored 88, reached double figures as Court were dismissed for 200 in the 29th over.
