We are guinea pigs this week in the day-night Championship match using a pink ball.

The weirdest feeling is not what to do in the mornings before a 2pm start but is actually during the game.

We had a 40-minute break for ‘lunch’ sandwiches at about 4pm and some ‘tea’ soup after 6.30pm – getting the right nutrition is difficult and we are winging it.

On the first night some of the boys said they couldn’t pick the ball up. It might be a case of just getting used to it, only time will tell.

The thing is that if the spectators had shown an interest then it would be easier for the players to get up for it.

I assume we’ll get a chance to have our say at the end of this experiment. It will be interesting to see what people have to say but I’m not sure it will be voted a big success.

There was some good cricket played at Derby last week and it was a shame that the result didn’t go the way we wanted.

The first morning there was an accident on the way to the ground and we got caught in traffic.

There were a few of the younger ones at the ground panicking that we were not all going to make the start so we wound them up a bit more by calling them during their warm-ups and telling them we still weren’t there (when we were). The start was delayed anyway so no harm was done.

It’s always good to see your team-mates performing well.

I was happy for Joe, who seems to have found his form of two years ago – the form that got him into the England side.

If he carries that on into next year then we have got a guy to lift us and push us on to win things.

Balcs has shown what a good bowler he is since he has been here and has raised the standard of our bowling.

It would be great to see him with us next year but at the moment I don’t know if that’s likely to happen or not.
