Kent have signed Middlesex opening batsman Scott Newman on a two-month loan.

The 32-year-old left-hander made his county debut for Surrey in 2002 before moving to Middlesex in 2009.

Newman said he was pleased to be joining Kent for the opening months of the season.

"I look forward to hopefully playing regular first team cricket and contributing to a successful start to 2012 for the club," he said.

Kent's head coach, Jimmy Adams said they were pleased the agreement for the loan had been reached.

"We now hope that Scott will do very well for Kent," he said. "He will join us for pre-season when the squad returns from Antigua and remain with the squad for the whole of April and May."

Newman has scored 8,415 first class runs at an average of 38.77, and has scored 16 hundreds, in his 10 seasons.
