Paul Farbrace believes Kent have the potential to emerge as this year’s dark horses in the Friends Life t20 competition.

Wednesday night's seven-wicket demolition of Gloucestershire Gladiators at Bristol kept Kent in the reckoning for the quarter-finals and Farbrace believes one more win from their final three South Group qualifying games should be enough to secure their place in the last eight.

Spitfires host Sussex Sharks at Canterbury on Friday (7.10pm) before completing their programme with away games against Surrey Lions (July 14) and Essex Eagles (July 15).

Farbrace (pictured) said: "We said at the start of the campaign that 18 points would see us qualify so one more win ought to do it and once you’re into the quarter-finals, who knows?

"At that stage you’ve only got to win three more games to win (the competition) and we’ve done that before, so we know what it takes."

Farbrace believes 2007 champions Spitfires have now found a successful formula for the 20-over game and also thinks they are thriving in the role of underdogs.

He added: "I’ve listened a few times to the so-called experts who haven’t given us too much of chance.

"But if you keep winning games, then people have to start taking you seriously. We’ve got a balanced bowling attack and different people are winning games for us."
