Met Office issue a yellow severe weather warning for rain in Kent today

Thundery downpours are expected to drench Kent today.

The county has been issued with a severe weather warning and people are told to be aware of possible surface flooding due to long showers.

Between 20 and 30mm of rain is predicted to fall over a three-hour period in some places.

The alert is in place from noon until 8pm.

A spokesman said: "As temperatures increase this morning, the rain is likely to become heavy with localised downpours."
