Heatwave for Kent set to push temperatures to near 100F as Spanish Plume hits

Kent is set to swelter into next week - with soaring temperatures set to nudge parts of the UK above the magic 100F barrier.

A plume of roasting air from Africa will bring the highest temperatures so far this year - and could even create a record summer high.

Weather pundits are predicting a warm-up over the next few days, with the 'Spanish Plume' delivering the strongest temperatures after the weekend.

The heatwave is expected to exceed temperatures felt in last month's sizzling spell, which saw the mercury nudge 33C in some parts of the country.

But the soaring temperatures would need a huge boost to match the highest ever temperature recorded in the UK.

That was felt on August 10 2003, when the temperature gauges at Brogdale, near Faversham, hit 38.5C - or 101.3F.

The impending heatwave has sparked a number of warnings from driving organisations to take care in hot cars.

The height of the heatwave is expected to hit us by next Tuesday.
