Kent off-spinner James Tredwell has been added to the England squad for the remaining two matches in the NatWest Series against Australia.

Tredwell (pictured) replaces Graeme Swann, who is being rested for the final two fixtures, at Durham on Saturday and Old Trafford on Tuesday, to allow him the chance to overcome discomfort in his right elbow ahead of the Investec Test series against South Africa beginning in a fortnight.

National selector Geoff Miller said: "We had earmarked the fourth and fifth matches in this series as an opportunity to rest Graeme regardless of the result at Edgbaston as we have to consider our preparations for the Investec Test series later this month.

"Graeme has some pain in his elbow at the moment and we feel that an extra week’s rest will allow his elbow to settle."

Tredwell hasn’t played for England for over a year, with his last outing coming in the World Cup quarter-finals last May.

He didn't get a game on the tour of Sri Lanka four months ago and then last month he was called up for the final ODI against West Indies at Headingley which was washed out by rain.
