Glenn Maxwell made sure Hampshire Royals gained quick revenge for their narrow three run defeat at Southampton on Friday night.

He blasted 66 not out off just 32 balls (six sixes and five fours) to condemn Kent Spitfires to a six-wicket defeat in the Friends Life t20 South Group at Canterbury on Sunday.

Rob Key's men had done well to defend a modest target of 136, until Maxwell took over, taking only 14 minutes to score his first 50 off 22 balls, with James Tredwell the man to suffer most. The England spinner conceded 23 in one over, including three sixes.

The Australian was denied another maximum by Adam Ball, who, standing outside the mid wicket boundary, produced an acrobatic leap to touch the ball back into play, but short of nearest fielder Mark Davies.

The umpires ruled it was only a single, leaving Hampshire captain Dimitri Mascarenhas unhappy, and walking out, attempting to query the decision, only to be roundly booed by the Kent crowd.

It didn't matter as Maxwell plundered two more sixes off Matt Coles, who seemed to exchange words with both him and Sean Ervine in another incident, as things became feisty in the middle, before it all ended in handshakes, Royals winning with 10 balls to spare.

Darren Stevens (pictured) was again Spitfires' top performer conceding only 19 off four overs, following up his 60 with the bat, which included four sixes and three fours, his 11th t20 half-century for the county.
