Kent's Clydesdale Bank 40 struggles continued with a rain-affected 40-run defeat against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on Sunday.

After a rain-delayed start stand-in skipper Martin van Jaarsveld won the toss and put the hosts in to bat.

Ashley Shaw (2-46), Davd Balcombe (1-22), Darren Stevens (2-51) and Joe Denly (3-42) all weighed-in with wickets, but Eric Szwarczynski (43) and Tom Cooper (38) put on 75 for the second wicket before three quick wickets left the hosts on 87-4.

However a swashbuckling 71 from 33 balls by captain Peter Borren, including six sixes and four fours, drove the hosts to 206-8 off 37 overs, including a 47 stand with Wesley Barresi and 30 with number 10 Tom Heggelman.

Kent began brightly and the total looked well within reach as Denly (46), Sam Northeast (21) and van Jaarsveld (pictured), who top-scored with 61 from 51 balls, steered the visitors to 143-3.

However van Jaarsveld fell to Bukhari and Alex Blake (10) followed soon after to spark a dramatic collapse.

Debutants Sam Billings and Chris Piesley fell in single figures, James Tredwell and Balcombe followed swiftly after and when last-man Shaw was run out after 35 overs, Kent had lost their final seven wickets for 22 runs to lose by 40 runs on the Duckworth-Lewis method.
