Rookie bowlers Warren Lee and Matt Coles claimed three wickets apiece as Kent completed their first NatWest Pro40 Division 2 win of the season beating Middlesex by 12 runs in front of 4,000 at Canterbury on Sunday.

The young seamers took their chance to impress, after the county decided to rest their front-line bowlers, giving Lee, Coles, and Phil Edwards their debuts in the competition, and chances to both Rob Ferley and Alex Blake.

Owais Shah hammered 130 off 94 balls with four sixes and 14 fours, before falling to an excellent catch by Justin Kemp off Lee (3-39) as he and Coles (3-50) wrapped up the victory as Middlesex were all out for 246.

Darren Stevens (pictured), blasted an unbeaten 75 off 50 balls with three sixes and six fours as Kent reached 258-4, building on the good form of Joe Denly (66) and Geraint Jones (73).

Denly hit 10 fours and six in his 79-ball 66, and Jones five fours and a six, as Kent recovered well after losing Rob Key (4) with the total 16.
