A Tunbridge Wells man being held captive by Somali pirates fears he and his wife could be executed within days.

Paul Chandler has managed to give a television interview to ITN in which he said their captors had separated him from his wife Rachel.

He said she had told him in their last phone call she was "giving up".

The couple - who are both in their 50s - disappeared while sailing from the Seychelles towards Tanzania in October.

The group holding the Chandlers want more than £4million to secure their safe return.

A video showing the couple with guns pointed at them was released in November. In it he urged the Government to carry out negotiations to buy their lives back.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: "We are monitoring the situation very closely and are doing everything we can to help secure a release."
