Goalscoring hero Cody McDonald has given the clearest hint yet that he could be prepared to join Gillingham permanently.

Gills boss Andy Hessenthaler has made no secret of wanting to hold on to the striker and McDonald (pictured) is clearly enjoying his time at Priestfield.

The on-loan Norwich hit-man took his season's goal tally to 22 with a late double to give Gillingham a 2-1 win at Cheltenham on Sunday.

"I love it here," said McDonald. "The supporters are brilliant, the players are brilliant and everyone has made me feel so welcome.

"It’s been fantastic and you never know something could be sorted for next year.

"I still have a year left on my contract at Norwich and the ball is in their court. We will wait and see and hopefully we can get something sorted.

"The Norwich manager told me to get some games and goals, and that is what I’ve done.

"It’s in their court whether they want to let me go or keep me. It might depend on whether or not they get promoted."
