Middle-distance ace Lisa Dobriskey made a surprise return to action on Wednesday night to give her chances of Olympic qualification a timely boost.

Just four days after pulling out of the British Milers' Club meeting at Watford - which would have been her first appearance of the season - the 28-year-old Ashford AC star (pictured) took to the track at a students' race meeting near her base at Loughborough and recorded a time of 4.12.8.

The New Romney ace - who won gold in the 1,500m at the Commonwelth Games in Melbourne in 2006 and silver at the 2009 World Championships - was last year diagnosed with a hip injury which required surgery.

It is believed the condition contributed to her shock second-last finish in her heat at the World Championships in Daegu, South Korea.

Dobriskey is on the invite list for the British Olympic trials in Birmingham next weekend, June 23/24, but, faces stiff competition for selection as Britain boasts several top middle-distance runners but has only three places up for grabs at London 2012.

Dobriskey did reach the Olympic A qualifying time with a 4.04.76 performance before her injury last year, but rivals Hannah England (4.01.89), Laura Weightmann (4.04.88), Charlene Thomas (4.07.06) and Steph Twell (4.07.09) have all set Olympic qualifying times this season.
