Adam Gemili says he will be back and even better at the next Olympic Games in Rio, after missing out on a place in the London 2012 Olympic Final by just 0.04secs.

Dartford's Gemili proved he is already a world class sprinter with a performance which belied his 18-years of age and the fact he has only been training full-time for six months.

He was edged out in the final semi-final by World Champion Yohan Blake (9.85secs) and former World Record holder Tyson Gay (9.90) but an exceptional dip secured him third place in 10.06, just one-hundredth of a second outside his PB, set in winning the World Junior Championship in Barcelona last month.

The time was the 10th fastest of the 24 runners in the semi-finals and only missed out on one of the two fastest-loser places by 0.04 to Richard Thompson of Trinidad.

Gemili (pictured) looked visibly disappointed but vowed to work hard to ensure he would improve from the experience.

He said: "I will keep working and if I can make some small improvements then the time will come."

He said competing infront of the raucous 80,000-crowd was 'the best feeling in the world,' and added: "It was not like anything I have experienced before - but I felt relaxed. I wasn't that nervous, I was excited to go out there and run."

He added: "This has definitely given me a taste for more. There's a lot more to come. I am going to work harder with my coach.

"I am going to keep doing what I'm doing. I think I have progressed quite a lot this year. I want to make some small improvements and try to get quicker."

The former Wentworth Primary and Dartford Grammar School pupil said: "I've had had so much support and messages on twitter and text messages from my friends.

"The support I've got back home and from everywhere has been absolutely amazing. I can't thank people enough."

Gemili also revealed he was already focusing on competing again at the highest level.

He said: "I want more. Rio's in four years time, I'll see what we can do next year.

"Hopefully I can pick up and I want to go to Rio and be a better competitor than I was today."

Closer to home will be the 4x100m relay heats on Friday evening, and Gemili added: "We've got the relay and we're going to go out there and try to do our best."
