A serious crash between two lorries on the M25 that left a driver trapped this afternoon has sparked long delays for Kent commuters.

The clockwise carriageway was shut clockwise between J4 for Orpington and J5 for the M26.

A male driver, believed to be in his 40s, was trapped in one of the lorries after the smash at just before 3pm.

A crew from Kent Fire and Rescue Service cut him free before he was treated at the scene by paramedics.

The man, who has been trapped in the lorry cab by his legs, was taken to The Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury with reported rib injuries.

South East Coast Ambulance said the man's condition was not thought to be life-threatening.

A spokesman said another person has been treated for shock at the scene.

The two HGVs collided at about 2.50pm, blocking the carriageway and leading to traffic being stopped while emergency services were at the scene.

Kent Highways said motorists should expect long delays on the Kent approach - and the road is expected to stay shut "for some time".

Commuters were experiencing delays of around 30 minutes. The road was expected to re-open from around 7pm.
