A man has been arrested in connection with the bungled raid at Minster Co-op.

The attempted burglary of the shop in Queen’s Road happened at around 2.30am Monday.

Officers arrested a 20-year-old for conspiracy to commit burglary. He has been released on bail until November 4.

Police are still following up a number of leads.

A police spokesman said burglars were forced to leave the store’s safe at the scene, after it was believed to have fallen off a trolley into the road.

It is thought they were unable to lift it back on again. Police believe the offenders left the scene on foot.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police in Sittingbourne on 01795 419280 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
