A man has denied two attempted murder charges dating back more than 13 years following his extradition from California in the United States.

Jaswinder Rana is alleged to have tried to kill his estranged wife Kirpal Kaur Rana and her boyfriend Amar Singh Sandhu.

The 56-year-old, of no fixed address, also denied two alternative charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and aggravated burglary at a house in Kelly Drive, Gillingham.

Mrs Rana and Mr Sandhu were seriously injured during an incident at the address on March 6 1996. Mr Sandhu was left confined to a wheelchair.

Judge Andrew Patience QC remanded Rana in custody. No date has been set for the trial.
