The body of a man has been washed up on the banks of the River Thames at Northfleet.

The unnamed man, said to be in his 60s and from the area, was picked up from the shore by the Gravesend lifeboat.

Attempts were made to resuscitate him, but an RNLI spokesman said he was probably already dead when they reached him on Wednesday.

Kent Police said they were not treating his death as suspicious, and the North Kent coroner had been informed.
