Matt Fish admits his dedication to keeping the Gillingham shirt has turned him into a recluse away from the club.

The right-back is the only player to have started every league and cup game for the Gills this season.

And he is willing to sacrifice his social life in a bid to remain in manager Martin Allen’s plans.

"Training has been more intense and you have to be on it every day," said the 23-year-old (pictured).

"I’ve noticed the difference. I have trained, gone home and watched DVDs, trained again and that’s all I’ve been doing, I’ve not been out at all.

"I’ve been focusing on myself, my game and my training because if you are off it in training the manager is not afraid to change it as we have seen."

Despite the great start to the season Fish knows nobody can afford to be complacent.

He said: "The boys and the staff will stay grounded and the manager will keep drumming into us that we have to keep playing well."
