A miracle!

That is how MP Derek Wyatt described the survival of youngsters as eight tonnes of metal ducting fell from a school hall roof while pupils sat exams.

As initial findings are revealed, the Sittingbourne and Sheppey backbencher said if the bulk of the ducting had hit pupils there would have been "serious fatalities."

He was speaking after 14 pupils were injured at Minster College, Sheppey on Tuesday when metal ducting fell onto the floor of a gymnasium.

Mr Wyatt said the problem appeared to have arisen as strong opposing winds lifted the roof off the building.

That then slammed down, causing the ducting to fall.

Mr Wyatt said he had spoken to both the head teacher, Alan Klee, and the fter the incident.

He had even handed over a letter to Mr Klee from Prime Minister Gordon Brown, praising the swift actions of the school.
