Ministry of Defence officers will carry on supporting Kent Police despite downgrading of threat level

MoD officers are to continue to support Kent Police - despite the national threat level being reduced from critical to severe.

The announcement from Kent Police comes after it was revealed yesterday that MoD police officers had been drafted in to help the county's armed officers amid an increased terror threat.

It comes in the wake of the Manchester terrorist attack on Monday, which left 22 dead.

But the national threat level was reduced to ‘Severe’ today.

A statement issued today said: "Kent Police is liaising with the Home Office to regularly assess the national threat levels and what that means for our county.

"Highly-visible firearms officers are already patrolling key locations in Kent as part of our current deployment and as a result of this on-going work, additional police officer patrols have been arranged."

The statement said MOD police officers were patrolling key locations to provide additional protective security - under the command and control of Kent Police.

Anyone who witnesses anything suspicious should report it to the Anti-Terrorist Hotline 0800 789 321.
