Five teenage boys have been arrested in connection with an incident in which another boy was hospitalised.

Officers were called to Parkwood Green at 1.30pm on Wednesday where a 13-year-old boy had suffered a head injury as a result of an assault.

He was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment and later transferred to a London hospital where his condition at 8am today was described as serious.

Three of the boys arrested are aged 14-years-old the other two are 13-years-old. All five were arrested on suspicion of GBH. They have all been bailed to Medway police station whilst enquiries continue.

The investigation is being led by Det Insp Mike Morgan.

He said:"We know that there were lots of people in the area when this incident occurred.

"Officers have already taken information from many of those present but we are still asking anyone who thinks they may know something that will assist us with our enquiries to come forward."

Chief Inspector Des Keers, added: "This is a rare incident and my officers work hard to keep young people in Medway safe.

"Currently the ‘Safer Summer’ campaign is underway in the area and this involves both extra officers on the street at key times and a drive to promote activities for youngsters over the holiday period."
