A motorcyclist has died in hospital after an accident with a Vauxhall Astra.

The man, from the Tonbridge area, was flown to a London hospital by the air ambulance after the accident on the A28 at St Michael’s, near Tenterden, on Sunday morning.

Police closed the road, between Grange Road and Shoreham Lane, diverting traffic.

According to Grange Road resident and town councillor, Michael Hickmott, the road was not back to normal until 2pm.

He said: "I left the house at about 9.30am and saw the air ambulance fly over.

"I went to the paper shop and saw the traffic was backed up.

"There was an ambulance parked by the sports field and another by Heather Drive. There were a couple of police cars and the road was taped off.

"I’ve never seen anything like it."
