An appeal to help identify a woman's body discovered in Kent woods has been made - 29 years after she was found.

The body was discovered in Bedgebury Forest, Cranbrook on October 23, 1979.

Missing People, the UK charity for missing and unidentified people, said although the woman's death sparked a murder hunt no-one came forward to say who she was.

The woman was white, aged between 30 and 35, about 5ft 1ins tall, thin with brown eyes and dark brown, shoulder length straight hair. It is believed she had had at least one child.

She was wearing black shoes, a floral dress and a black polo neck jumper and is thought she may have come from eastern Europe.

Teri Blythe from the charity's identification department said: "In most cases an unidentified person is also a missing person so it is likely that this woman will have family and friends out there who do not know her fate."

She hoped the appeal would bring in vital clues which will lead to the identify of the woman and "put an end to someone's distress".
