THE QUEEN MOTHER: hard act to follow

THE identity of the new Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports is due to be announced tomorrow.

It follows months of speculation and campaigning by the mayors of the Cinque Ports for an appointment to the ancient post previously held by the Queen Mother.

Mayor of Sandwich Cllr Brian Scott said he was glad that the waiting was finally over.

"It has been a long time coming and I am looking forward to finding out who the Lord Warden will be," he added stressed.

The announcement will be made at a special event in Dover Castle which will be attended by the deputy constable of the castle, Brigadier David Santa-Olalla, and speaker of the Cinque Ports, Cllr Pam Brown.

The position involves being Constable of Dover Castle and having a home at Walmer Castle.
