Gillingham's injury jinx struck again when Scott Vernon turned his ankle against MK Dons

This weekend we have the big derby against a Charlton side who are sitting second in League 1 and will be disappointed if they fail to achieve automatic promotion this season.

I’m sure you guys can’t wait for Saturday to come around and I can assure you that the boys can’t either!

The atmosphere will be electric and we’re going to go all out to give you all plenty to cheer about.

While we want a great atmosphere, please resist the temptation to bring any beach balls into the ground, we don’t need any of those in the goalmouth with our luck at the moment!

The injury jinx which keeps hitting us at the moment struck again last Saturday at MK Dons when Scotty Vernon turned his ankle and was forced to come off.

He’s had to return to Colchester and it’s a blow for us as he started well and linked up with Jacko nicely. We will have to roll with the punch again though and keep going.

The other new boy, Matty Fry, had a promising for us. He was strong, tenacious and composed on the ball and gave us great balance at the back. Hopefully he can continue his good start and be a big plus for us.

MK Dons proved to be a strong side. We went there with the intention to show that we are a match for anyone in this division and I think we did that.

We were comfortable throughout, aside from maybe a spell in the second half, where they got their first goal. Even then I can’t remember Roycy making any real saves.

We had some chances of our own and on another day the ball would have run straight to Jacko, rather than their defenders, after the keeper spilled a couple of good strikes from Curtis Weston and Andy Barcham.

We were also close to connecting with some corners and all of this gives us great encouragement that our away form will pick up sooner rather than later.

I must send out some get well soon wishes to a couple of people. Firstly, our kit man Malcolm has been in hospital with a hernia. We all hope he recovers quickly and is back dancing in the changing room again soon.

The other message is for one half of the ‘Northern Gills’ as Bruce had an unfortunate accident while watching us train when he broke his ankle. Again, all the boys wish you a speedy recovery.
