TWO men arrested in connection with a serious assault in a Kent town at the weekend have been released on bail.

Police were called to King Edward Street, Whitstable, at around 11.40pm on Saturday after a 48-year-old man was found with serious facial injuries.

Two men, aged 18 and 20 and both from Whitstable, were questioned by police on Tuesday but bailed pending further enquiries.

The victim, who has not been named, underwent emergency surgery and remains in a critical condition in Margate's QEQM Hospital.

Parts of Whitstable were cordoned off by police on Sunday while investigations were carried out.

An appeal for witnesses has been made and police would particularly like to speak to a man seen in the area. He is described as white, wearing a waist-length 'snorkel' jacket, a grey top, beige jeans and white trainers.

Anyone with information is asked to telephone police on 01227 868294.
