Pakistan bowler Wahab Riaz likely to stay with Kent County Cricket Club for rest of season

Kent look like keeping paceman Wahab Riaz for the whole of the season.

The 26-year-old Pakistan left-armer had been lined-up to spend a fortnight this month playing in the inaugural Sri Lankan Premier League, but that competition has been postponed until next year, leaving him free to play more games for Kent.

Riaz is due to stay until August 20 and Kent’s director of cricket Paul Farbrace explained: “To be honest I don’t think the Sri Lankan Premier League was ever going to happen.

“There seem to have been too many issues for that ever to have got off the ground.

"The good thing is that we had Charl Langeveldt potentially lined-up to take over if Wahab went.

“As it is Wahab will stay. It is good for him because he’s keen to learn as much as he can and play some four-day cricket.

"It will also be good for us because he’s an explosive cricketer as he showed with his bowling against Sussex.”
