Paul Farbrace believes the players of Kent and Glamorgan will enjoy playing championship cricket under floodlights next week.

The two sides have agreed to make their LV= County Championship Division 2 game at St Lawrence a day-night game, complete with a pink match ball - the first time a championship game will have been played under floodlights.

Weather-permitting the lights will be switched on at 5.30pm with play continuing until at least 9pm on each of the four days play, from Monday to Thursday.

Kent director of cricket Farbrace (pictured) said: “The ECB contacted the clubs and said it was something they were keen to experiment with, if the clubs agreed to it.

“I was asked if we had any reasonable problems with doing it and we couldn’t think of any. It is interesting and could be an exciting innovation.

"I’ve always been an advocate of using floodlights, if available, when bad light stops play, it seems silly not to.

“I’m sure both sets of players will enjoy playing in the quirky conditions for Championship cricket.”

The move is part of an International Cricket Council proposal to introduce day-night Test matches.
