Paul Farbrace admits three defeats in a week was "horrible" but says Kent’s poor form isn’t down to a lack of effort.

A free week has allowed time to regroup and reflect on eight days which left Kent struggling in both the County Championship and Clydesdale Bank 40 competitions.

Director of cricket Farbrace said: "It’s hard when we are not winning. It’s horrible and none of us enjoy it.

"I am a bad loser but when the boys are continuing to try, working hard, and putting the effort in, there is not a lot else you can do.

"The players and me as a coach, get a lot of stick when we lose and I read what people write, saying we don’t care and are not bothered.

"Comments like that are harder to take – even worse than the defeats. Nothing could be further from the truth and we do care passionately about things."

Eight senior players were included in the second team game against Somerset at Maidstone this week, including Simon Cook, Robbie Joseph and fit-again Matt Coles.

The trio were looking to get more overs under their belt while Kent also included former Sussex opener Michael Thornely in their side.

Farbrace is refusing to rule out injured pair Rob Key and Joe Denly from being fit to face Worcestershire at New Road on Sunday.
