A man in his 70s was cut free from his car and taken to hospital after he crashed into a lamp-post this morning.

The driver, from Surrey, was in a silver Volvo estate when it struck the lamp-post, some fencing and two concrete bollards in North Street, Sutton Valence, just after 7am today.

He was trapped in his car at the crash site, just outside the King's Head pub, before firefighters freed him.

He was later taken to Maidstone hospital, where his chest injuries were not said to be life-threatening.

Traffic was diverted along Chart Road until North Street was fully re-opened by police at 10.15am.
