Plan for community cinema

A NEW community cinema is on the cards in Hawkhurst. A scheme to operate it from the Victoria Hall for five days a week with three showings a day, has been backed by the parish council.

The promoters hope to show a range of films including children's films, foreign language films, education curriculum seasons and mainstream cinema.

Hawkhurst Parish Council, which owns the hall, may contribute some of the cash towards the conversion set-up cost.

Helen Jones, an Australian with a career in the film industry in her native land, is one of the promoters behind the scheme. It is hoped that the cinema may be up and running by October, once the necessary licences have been granted.
