Police appeal after pedestrian is seriously hurt

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was injured in a road accident in Westgate, near Margate. Officers have taken the unusual step of naming the victim, in the hope it will jog someone’s memory.

Gerard Leisk, 55, was crossing at the junction of Westgate Bay Avenue and Ethelbert Square shortly before 5pm on Sunday. He was hit by a silver Peugeot 106 driven by a Westgate man.

Mr Leisk suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Queen Mother Hospital in Margate. He was later transferred to the Royal Free Hospital in London for further treatment.

A police spokesman said: “Mr Leisk is very well known locally and we hope someone will remember seeing him before the incident. He was carrying a white carrier bag, and would have been quite distinctive to those who know him."

Anyone who saw the accident, or remembers seeing Mr Leisk on Sunday afternoon is asked to phone PC Dave Lavender on 222124.
