Residents have spoken of their shock after the alleged rape and kidnap of a young woman in their quiet Kent village.

Two men and a woman have been arrested in connection with the incident in West Hougham, just outside Dover.

It is believed to have taken place in Lady Garne Road last Friday.

A police spokesman said Jiri Bano, 37, of Pilgrims Way, Dover, has been charged with kidnap and rape, and remanded in custody.

Toman Daniel, 21, also from Pilgrims Way, was remanded in custody charged with kidnap.

A 22-year-old woman has also been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to kidnap. She has been bailed pending further investigation until April 2.

Spanish-born Dolores Apps, who lives nearby, said: "All the neighbours are shocked. We never expected such a thing."

Cllr Frederick Scales, of Dover district council, said: "It's quite a close-knit community there and a very respectable road, as is the rest of the village.

"This must have come as a real shock to all the residents."
