Police launch manhunt after building society raid

Four men are being hunted by police after they robbed a building society in Gillingham.

The gang of four, who hid their faces with scarves, broke into the Nationwide Building Society on Watling Street, at about 10.30pm last Friday just as cash delivery drivers were dropping off cash in secure boxes.

Police say the gang were not armed, but grabbed the cash boxes from the delivery drivers at the scene.

It has not been revealed how much the boxes contained, but both are thought to be capable of holding thousands of pounds.

The gang escaped on foot.

Det Insp Mike Morgan, said: “The offenders were not armed and no one was hurt in the robbery.

“The amount of money taken is not yet known and officers are continuing to investigate.”
