Police name death crash driver

A MAN man who died in the Kent and Sussex Hospital, Tunbridge Wells, after his car left the road and hit a tree on the A21 at Flimwell at the weekend has been identified. He was 48-year-old Ian Courton, of the T and J Motel, Hastings Road, Flimwell.

Mr Courton had a mobile home at the motel and had lived there for about five years. His death has prompted fresh pleas for a 50mph limit from a residents' action group.

Valerie McGuane, who lives on the A21, close to the scene of Saturday's crash, and who helped form the action group this time last year, said: "We have had three fatalities in less than 12 months on one small stretch of road.

"It's the first chance drivers have to put their foot down. It's a very, very dangerous road. "We have asked the Highways Authority to take whatever measures possible to stop these deaths.

"There's not one resident that isn't concerned - residents want to see results."

Mrs McGuane is to meet Tunbridge Wells MP Archie Norman and the representatives from Highways Agency some time in January.
