Pride In Medway - Doreen Pettitt

A volunteer swimming teacher who has been put forward for an individual award has passed the nomination on to the whole club.

Doreen Pettitt, a session leader at the Valiant Swimming Club in Strood, was nominated by Wendy Black, whose son Joseph attends the club.

Wendy, of Cranmere Court, Strood, said: “The swimming club is run for disabled people and helps them gain confidence in the water and swim.

“Doreen works tirelessly at the club on a voluntary basis.

“Joseph loves his swimming lessons with Doreen and can’t wait to get into the pool.

“Doreen also helps organise any social and fund-raising events for the club, often giving up her free time to help.”

When Doreen was contacted by the Medway Messenger, she declined the individual nomination, and instead told us she wanted all the volunteers to be put forward for an award for the time and effort they put into the club.
