Queen Victoria would not be amused... as a pair of her old bloomers gets an airing!

A rare opportunity to see the royal undergarment in all its glory is being offered by the Tunbridge Wells Museum & Art Gallery.

It is the first time the sizeable exhibit has been seen in public since the 1950s.

And it gives a huge insight into the royal rear - the 'briefs' measure a whopping 52cm across the top!

A spokesman said: "Although we don’t know exactly when this garment dates from, it is reasonable to assume that it is from the later part of Victoria’s life, when she grew much thicker around the waist."

Royal underwear rarely survives the passage of time.

It is said that on Queen Victoria’s death in 1901, items of her clothing were divided up amongst her staff as keepsakes.

This, unusually, included her underwear.

Queen Victoria’s underpants can be seen throughout August at Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery.
