Police expect to name a 37-year-old man killed in a railway tunnel after falling onto tracks tomorrow.

The man, believed to be from Gillingham, was found dead in the Fort Pitt Tunnel between Rochester and Chatham railway stations on Sunday morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A British Transport Police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that they attended reports of a body on the line, at the Rochester end of the tunnel."

"Investigations are currently ongoing to find out how the man came to be on the tracks, and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

The incident, attended by BTP, Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service and South East Coast Ambulance Service, was reported at 6.11am.

It is not being treated as suspicious.

Trains were delayed and cancelled as a result of the tragedy.
