Kent Spitfires were frustrated by rain as they tried to gain revenge over the Unicorns in their Clydesdale Bank Pro40 match at Southend on Tuesday.

Last month's defeat at Canterbury by the Unicorns was Kent's lowest point so far under new coach Jimmy Adams and they were keen to make amends in Essex.

But, after restricting the Unicorns to 177-8, Kent only batted for three overs, during which they reached 9-0, before rain prevented any further play.

The Unicorns had made a good start thanks to a second-wicket stand of 72 between James Ord (52) and Tim New (31) but Kent then hit back, helped by two run outs and two wickets from Brendan Nash. Earlier, Mark Davies (pictured) conceded just 15 in his eight overs.

However, an unbeaten 36 from 35 balls late on from Luis Reece enabled the Unicorns to set a competitive target.

Kent's point for a 'No Result' leaves them with five points from four games, three behind Group C leaders Warwickshire who have played a game more.

Kent return to action today for the start of this year's Tunbridge Wells Festival. Rob Key's side take on Hampshire in the LV= County Championship and the skipper has included youngster Sam Billings in his 12-man squad.

Kent from: Northeast, Key, Billings, Harmison, Nash, Powell, Stevens, Jones, Tredwell, Coles, Davies, Shreck.
