Gillingham have signed Reading winger Jordan Obita on a month’s youth loan and sent out midfielder Dean Rance to Dover.

England youth international Obita joins the Gills in time to be part of the squad which faces Plymouth this weekend.

Eighteen-year-old Obita came through the academy ranks at Reading and made his first team debut for the Royals aged just 16. Despite an impressive pre-season he struggled to make it into the Championship side’s first team this season.

His only appearance this season for Reading was in their Carling Cup defeat to Charlton in August. He recently returned to them from a six-game loan at League 2 Barnet.

Obita will stay with the Gills for the next month, with the current deal expiring on Saturday, August 31, after the game against Macclesfield.

Meanwhile the club have let central midfielder Rance (pictured), 20, join Blue Square Bet South side Dover. He signs on at Crabble for a month.

Rance, a second year professional, has made just one appearance for the Gills. He came off the bench in the FA Cup victory over Bournemouth in November.

He goes straight into Nicky Forster’s squad for their match against Salisbury.
