IKEA Patrull children's nightlights could cause electric shocks and burns

Parents are being told to unplug IKEA's Patrull nightlight immediately after a child was injured.

The Scandinavian furniture company has issued a recall for the product after a young child tried to remove the nightlight from a wall socket.

The plastic cover detached and the child received an electric shock, resulting in minor burns to the youngster's hand.

The accident in Austria has prompted a Europe-wide recall, and IKEA has asked parents to stop using the lights immediately, turn off the power at the plug socket and remove it from the socket.

The firm is offerring customers a full refund, and proof of purchase is not required.
