Robbers break car driver's leg

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a 33-year-old motorist suffered a terrifying ordeal at the hands of robbers.

The victim was driving along Station Road, Strood, when his phone rang. He pulled over about 30 yards before the lights at the junction with Frindsbury Hill to answer it.

As he did so, two men opened the driver’s door and passenger front door at the same time.

One of the offenders told the man to get out of his car, which he did. The victim noticed another man and woman who were standing a few metres away.

As he got out of his car, one of the men took the driver’s mobile and then removed his wallet from his rear trouser pocket.

The man who had been standing apart with the woman then came up to the driver and stuck him on the left leg. The driver does not know what the man used to hit him. The blow caused the man to fall to the ground.

The group then walked down Station Road and turned into Bowes Road. The victim managed to drive to a nearby garage where he called the police.

The man was taken to hospital where an x-ray confirmed that he had broken his leg in two places. The man underwent an operation to pin the broken bones. The robbery happened just after midnight on Monday.

The first offender is described as being aged 19-20, about 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build with short hair. He was clean-shaven and spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a black tracksuit top with a number on it and blue jeans.

The second offender is aged 19 to 20, 5ft 8ins tall, and of slim build with short hair which was possibly bleached or highlighted. He was clean-shaven and wore a stud in his right ear. He was wearing a white tracksuit top.

The female is aged about 19 and had very long, jet black hair. The third man, who had had been standing with the woman, and who assaulted the man, is described as being aged about 18, 5ft 5ins tall, and medium build with short hair. He was clean-shaven and was wearing green tracksuit bottoms with two or three white lines down the side of the legs.
