Margate go on the attack against Maidstone

Maidstone United maintained their impressive recent form by beating Margate in the FA Trophy first qualifying round.

Margate, sitting top of the Ryman League Division 1 South, had home advantage and had won all three of their league games at Hartsdown Park.

But it was Jay Saunders’ (pictured) Maidstone who emerged victorious with two late goals to win 2-1. It was the Stones’ sixth straight win in all competitions.

The first half ended goalless and the Stones had to come from behind after Ryan Dolby scored from a Margate corner. With 14 minutes left an own goal from Phil Starkey levelled it up and Alex Flisher smashed home and 83 minute winner.

Ramsgate swept aside Waltham Forest at Southwood and stormed into the next round after winning 4-0.

Warren Schulz opened the scoring from the penalty spot and Curtis Robinson doubled the lead before the break with a long distance effort.

Tom Chapman bagged the third with 55 minutes gone and Robinson completed the scoring, this time striking home from the edge of the box.

Ryman League Premier Division Harrow Borough were no match for Whitstable Town at the Belmont on Saturday.

The Division 1 South outfit won 2-0 thanks to goals from Damian Abel and Jake Beecroft in the first half.

Town keeper Nick Shaw saved a Garry Jones penalty in the second half and took the man-of-the-match award after a string of impressive saves to keep the higher divison opponents at bay.

Jack Pallen (pictured) and Lee Hales were on target for Chatham Town at Maidstone Road but they went down 4-2 to South Division strugglers Merstham.

Hythe Town will have a second crack at Hampton & Richmond Borough, this time on home turf, after drawing 1-1.

In an exciting game Nick Reeves gave Town a first half lead, with a looping header, but Borough levelled a minute after the restart through Mo Harkin. The replay at the Reachfields Ground is on Tuesday night.

Faversham Town continued their poor form with a 2-0 home defeat to Leatherhead while Sittingbourne are also out after losing 3-1 to Hitchin Town.

The Brickies were a man down on 37 minutes after Curtis Winnett was sent off for a second booking and Hitchin struck moments later. A Ryan Golding penalty after the break levelled it up but Aaron Gough became the second Brickies player to be shown a red card and two late goals from the home side settled the tie.

Leigh Bremner’s 42nd minute penalty was enough for Cray Wanderers as they saw off local rivals Thamesmead 1-0

League action saw Folkestone Invicta end their goal drought by brushing aside Walton Casuals 3-0 in Ryman League, Division 1 South, to go second in the table.

Neil Cugley’s side were handed an early boost when Colin Hartburn was sent off after fouling Josh Burchell in the penalty area. Darren Marsden scored the resulting spot-kick and he doubled the lead midway through the second half.

The win was put beyond doubt when Liam Dickson scored 13 minutes from time.

Calum McGeehan netted for Herne Bay as they moved up to fourth in the table following a 1-1 draw with Corinthian Casuals.
