Two masked robbers tried to grab a cash box from a security guard in Ashford town centre today.

The attempted robbery happened at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) in New Rents, just after 10.40am.

The would-be robbers tried to grab the box as it was being delivered to the bank by the G4S security guard but failed in the attempt.

The incident is believed to have happened outside the premises as the guard left a security van parked nearby.

Police say the offenders ran off towards Drum Lane and the ring road.

Officers sealed off New Rents around the RBS at the street’s junction with Drum Lane and Gilbert Road.

South Kent Police say they are now looking for two men described as in their late teens or early 20s, wearing hoods and with scarves across their faces.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Anyone with information should contact South Kent Police on 01303 289180 or alternatively call Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
