A sex offender originally from Whitstable who attacked a prostitute has been jailed after he failed to tell police he had gone on holiday to South Africa.

Nigel Hatton, 44, was put on the sex offenders register for life and is supposed to tell police if he makes plans to travel.

But Canterbury magistrates heard immigration officials caught him coming back into the country.

Police also found holiday photographs on a laptop at his former home in Station Road, Whitstable.

He admitted a charge of taking an authorised holiday.

Hatton, who now lives in Brixham, Devon, served four years for sexually assaulting a prostitute in Plymouth.

He claims he was the “victim of a kangaroo court” and that his conviction was a miscarriage of justice.

Magistrates jailed him for four months for breaching the sex offenders order.
