Shopkeeper hurt in struggle with knifeman

POLICE are investigating after a shopkeeper was attacked by a knifeman in Rochester.

The woman, believed to be in her 50s, was working at the Costcutters store in Pattens Lane when a man burst in brandishing the knife.

He used the weapon to try and cut the wires to the till but as the shopkeeper struggled to keep hold of the till she was cut by the knife.

The incident happened shortly after after 3.30pm on Wednesday. The robber escaped with just £5. Paramedics treated the woman for a deep wound to her finger and shock before taking her to hospital.

A spokesman said: "Her injuries were not life threatening." Officers are now studying camera footage.

A spokesman for Medway Police said: "A man came into the shop and tried to take the till. He did have a knife but only used it to try and get hold of the till. He ran off down Pattens Lane and into Horsted Avenue."
