A water company has denied three offences including one of not disinfecting water for drinking properly.

Southern Water is accused of not designing and operating an adequate treatment process for water; of not disinfecting water before it was supplied; and of not subjecting water to a preliminary treatment which would prepare it for disinfection.

All the offences are alleged to have taken place at the beginning of November 2008 at the Matts Hill water treatment works near Rainham.

The company pleaded not guilty to all three offences at Medway Magistrates’ Court today.

The case has been adjourned until January 28.
