Welling stumbled to defeat against lowly Staines on Monday night.

Just two days after an impressive win at Dover the Wings slipped up against a side which finished with nine men, losing 4-2.

Ryan Flack scored twice on his league debut for Welling but they themselves had Ben Martin sent off as their unpredictable away form continued.

Jamie Day’s (pictured) Welling started the evening sitting third in the Blue Square Bet South against a Staines side in the relegation zone.

Staines went ahead with eight minutes gone as Will Antwi headed home.

Welling were twice denied a penalty shout, with Harry Baker going down in the box on both occasions. The referee gave the first penalty but changed his mind and awarded a free-kick to Staines, after consulting with his linesman.

At the other end Staines were awarded a spot kick but keeper Craig Holloway saved from Adam Everitt.

It was only a short reprieve for Welling as they conceded a second before the break, as Richard Butler stabbed home.

Early in the second half Staines had two players sent off. Jake Gallagher was shown red for a foul, before Richard Butler followed him off shortly afterwards, after picking up a second caution.

Welling’s hopes of a comeback improved further still when substitute Flack deflected a clearance home to make it 2-1.

But just two minutes later Mark Nwokeji broke clear to put Staines back into a commanding position.

Flack once more netted, heading home a cross from Ben Greenhalgh, but a second yellow card left them down to 10 men as Martin walked and Staines added a fourth through Everitt.
