A village carnival bucked the trend when hundreds of people turned out to support the event at Aylesham.

While many carnivals now struggle, there were nearly 50 entries for Saturday’s procession.

It was part of two days of family activities which included a fun fair, dance and fireworks.

Organiser and carnival chairman Alan Watson said: “An awful lot of works goes into it, so it’s nice to get so many positive comments afterwards.

“Next year will be the 80th anniversary of the carnival and our challenge will be to come up with something even bigger and better.”
